Art Journalling.

Art Journalling.

Hello my lovelies and happy Sunday! I hope you’re having a good weekend so far and are looking after yourself.

As you will have noticed, the day that this post is going up is a Sunday instead of my usual Saturday, and that’s because I’ve had to make a small change to my blogging schedule due to other stuff going on, so for the next few months posts will be up on Sundays instead on Saturdays!

So, over the last few weeks you may have also noticed something new about me.. I finally took the plunge and dyed my hair pastel pink! I absolutely love it and I think it’s my favourite colour so far!

Another thing that has been happening recently is that I’ve been making more time to work in my sketchbook which is becoming a bit like an art journal, sketchbook and scrapbook combo.

To get an idea of the sort of thing I mean, here’s one of my Pinterest boards of inspiration!

Now that you have a bit of an idea as to what I’m jabbering on about, here’s a few reasons why I love art journalling and 100% recommend it to everyone who loves getting creative and struggles to get out of their own head after a long day:

  • It’s relaxing and a great way to practice mindfulness.
  • I can jot down any ideas and thoughts I’ve had during the day.
  • It’s a way for me to practice and improve my creative skills.
  • It’s like a photo album of memories and thoughts you can look back on.

So now that you know some of the many reasons why I love art journalling, why don’t you grab yourself a cuppa, sit down, get out your art supplies and journal with me! And even if you’ve never tried journalling or are just curious as to what my sketchbook looks like, you can check out the video and photos below!

Here’s some of my favourite spreads, some are still works in progress that I plan on coming back to very soon!

You may have noticed that when it comes to my journal there isn’t huge amounts of text or writing, and there’s two reasons for that. One being that I don’t always know what to write. Two, I have never been good at writing down my exact thoughts, so instead I express them through other things like quotes. Another thing you will have noticed is that I like to feature unique words in my journal spreads, and that’s because I like finding words that I’ve never heard of before that I think are pretty and then research some that fit with the theme of my pages.

My love for journalling and working in my sketchbook has always been there, and over the last few weeks and months I’ve been dedicating more and more time to it and it’s done wonders for managing my mental health. Not to mention that I get to have a very pretty sketchbook after.

What’s your favourite spread in my journal/sketchbook? Do you have your own sketchbook or journal you like to work in? If you do, I’d love to see them, just tag me on instagram (@theweightofmyworlds) !

Well, that’s all from me for today my lovelies! Have a great rest of your weekend!

Everyday Makeup Tutorial.

Hello my lovelies! The end of this week is the beginning of a week off work for me, and I can’t wait for a little down time and some time with Matt. Because I’ve got time off work next week, it means I’ll probably be wearing makeup a lot more because I find it really relaxing and a great way to fit in some me-time in my busy days.

Selfie With Makeup

Which leads me on to today’s post! My first ever makeup tutorial! I won’t lie, I was nervous to film my makeup routine but it’s good to push yourself out of your comfort zone. Plus, I’ve had a few requests for one, so there was no way I was going to let you down!

To start, I’ll give you my list of products I use, in the order I use them:

Now that you know what I like to use/wear, here’s my tutorial!

And that’s my everyday makeup tutorial! I say everyday, but I only wear makeup when I feel like it, which is usually at the weekend or when I’m off work.

I like wearing this kind of makeup for everyday wear and for going out, partly because I just love that glam natural look. You get what I mean by that? Basically as if I’ve got skin that’s clear, long lashes and have some form of cheek bones rather than my chipmunk cheeks – thanks contouring!

I’ve always struggled with smudging lipsticks and sticky lip glosses so I never used to wear them, but over the last year I’ve been wearing lipstick more and more and I’ve fallen in love with that rose tinted lip gloss. It’s not too sticky and looks great over a completely bare lip!

So, here’s what I looked like before I did my makeup, and after!

I have always believed that you should only wear makeup if you want to, and that it should be something you feel like you have to do in order to be liked or accepted.

Even though before I put my makeup on I could see my acne, bags under my eyes, rosacea and patchy eyebrows; I still went out like that with my hair up, barefaced and I felt pretty good and didn’t think about needing makeup for a second. What I will say is yes I did feel love how I looked after I put my makeup on, and that’s because makeup is an incredible art-form and method of expression.

Basically, do what makes you happy and feel good!

And on that note, what makeup product could you not live without? I think mine’s got to be mascara! It just makes me feel that extra bit put together! What did you think to my tutorial? Let me know in the comments, and if you try out my makeup routine be sure to tag me in your photos on instagram @theweightofmyworlds!

Have a great weekend everyone, and remember, you’re amazing!

Unique Fashion.

Happy Saturday lovelies!! This heatwave is certainly going on for a bit longer than I’d like! Do you like the heat? Or are you more of a autumn/winter person?

DIY Unique Fashion Pin

Anyway, on to the subject of this weeks post: DIY Unique Fashion! I couldn’t decide what to call this post for ages and I think that title sums it up the best. I toyed with DIY Fashion, Personalised Clothes etc. but unique fashion fits better.

Where did the idea for this post come from? Well.. as you know, I love wearing whatever I want, no matter what other people think; and because I’m a creative I often dream up outfits in my head with pieces I don’t own or that would cost way too much money that I don’t have.

And voila! The decision entered my mind that since I have some sewing skills I could probably create some of these pieces myself.

First up I had to decide what I wanted to make, and for my first project I chose shoes. Floral embroidered ones to be exact. I got the idea for these from seeing some checked vans when out and about shopping, those shoes take me back to my teens, everyone used biros and sharpies to draw the check pattern themselves haha.

So to start, I had to work out what shoes to buy as a base, and I figured some cheap converse would be a good plan since there’s loads of fabric to work with. I got mine from Primark in the end because they’re cheap and cheerful and if my idea went horribly wrong then I wouldn’t have wasted a load of money.

Then I ordered myself an embroidery starter pack from Amazon. If you’re wondering which one, you can find it here. It cost about £16, and it came with everything I needed. One thing I will say with this set is that the needles aren’t massively strong so I bought some extra needles which worked a lot better with the thicker fabrics.

Now, if I was smarter, I would’ve drawn out the design I wanted to create. But I decided to just wing it and see what happens. If you aren’t sure what design you want, I’d suggest drawing it out first to be safe.

Then comes the fun part! Time to start sewing! If you’re struggling for ideas on what you want to sew or how to sew certain stitches, there’s hundreds on embroidery tutorials on Pinterest, TikTok and YouTube.

My trainers took me about 2-3 weeks, and that was by working on them on and off in the evenings. Then I got myself some weatherproofing spray and gave them a good covering.

And after all that, I’m super happy with my results!

DIY Unique Fashion

I love my trainers, they’re unique and no one else has any like it! Plus I have the satisfaction of knowing I made them, and you know, you gotta celebrate your successes no matter how small!

Onto my next 10 minute project that anyone can do, I had a pair of dungarees and I kept envisioning a pretty sunflower on them, so that’s exactly what I did. And it took no time at all. All you need is a needle, some embroidery thread (or even thick normal thread would work to be honest) and some interfacing if you’re working with stretchy and flimsy fabric.

Interfacing is something you can buy in two forms, iron on or sew on. I use iron on interfacing for clothes and adding small designs onto things, but if you were to make your own handbag for example, you’d probably use sew in as it tends to be a bit thicker.

DIY Unique Fashion

And here is my super cute dungarees! It’s such a small simple thing to add, but I feel like it’s brought a bit of new life to them.

Tips for starting a creative project:

  • Plan what design you want to do/what you want to make.
  • Do some research into different techniques.
  • Make a list of everything you’ll need.
  • Make it in your own time.
  • Take progress pictures if you’re making it over a long period of time. (It’s always great to see how much you’ve progressed!)
  • Wear whatever you’ve made with confidence.
  • Celebrate your creativeness!

And that’s about it for today’s post! I love being able to channel my creativity into my style, and I’ll definitely being making some more changes to my clothes to make them unique. And I can’t wait to wear these shoes out and about to show them off! And as for my dungarees, well I’ve got visions of wearing them with either a bottle green, red wine, mustard or deep purple coloured jumpers in autumn/winter. After all, I am a winter gal at heart.

What do you think to my dungarees and trainers? Let me know in the comments! Has this inspired you to make some of your own personalised clothes/accessories? It’s really rewarding and therapeutic to do. Perfect for days when its pouring down or something to do whilst you lay in the sun.

If you’re out in the sun today make sure you’re keeping cool and hydrated, and wearing sun cream! Have a great weekend everyone, see you next week!
