My Favourite Outfits.

My Favourite Outfits.

Hello my lovelies! I hope you’ve been finding some time to relax and look after yourselves this week. This week I’m starting off today’s post a bit differently to how I normally would; and that’s because there are some important things that need to be said before we continue with my usual positive post for the week.

As we all know, protests are going on across the globe as police brutality and racism against the black community has not stopped and we as human beings need to actively be anti-racist. Too many lives have been taken and continue to be taken because of the colour of someone’s skin. Enough is enough. We cannot stand here and accept this. We will not.

I CAN'T BREATHE
Say their names. #BlackLivesMatter

To all of the black community:

I am not black, but I see you.

I am not black, but I hear you.

I am not black, but I mourn with you.

I am not black, but I will fight for you.

#BlackLivesMatter

I have white privilege, and that means that I cannot begin to understand the fear and pain the black community must go through every single day. Having white privilege also means that I can use my platform and privilege to help stop these injustices that are happening everyday.

If you can please go to blacklivesmatter.com and find out about your local peaceful protests and how you can do your part by donating to BlackLivesMatter, to bail funds, to Stand Up Against Racism, sign as many petitions as you can and educate yourself on your privilege and ensure that we are all more than just not being racist. We must be anti-racist.

Together we will have justice. If you’re going to protests please stay safe, here are some resources you can use to stay safe and support what is right. And to anyone who will say ‘All lives matter’ to this, yes, you’re right, all lives matter, and THAT is why black lives matter. You don’t truly believe that all lives matter until you are standing up for black lives, saying all lives matter right now is taking away from the voices who need to be heard, the black lives that need our help. And if you still don’t understand, watch this video which explains it perfectly:

I’m doing my part to stop the brutality that black people go through on a daily basis and I hope you will too.

Naturally because of everything that is going on at the moment we need to find time to look after ourselves. We must continue to fight and in order to do so, please look after yourselves, even if that’s just by making sure you’re carrying milk and water with you to protests and wearing your masks.

These times are hard and it can be hard to find a smile with everything going on (understandably and rightly so). So something I’ve been doing is wearing outfits that make me smile. And so, to hopefully give you at least five minutes of positivity today I’m going to be sharing them with you!

First up we’ve got some cute mom jean shorts with a black tee! I paired these with these amazing alien earrings and tiny black sunglasses which are just a complete vibe and I love them!

Next up we have this adorable check smock dress that I picked up from Tesco and it is just so comfy and I love that kind of grungy look you get when you pair a cute dress with black boots. Plus, since this is a smock dress, it’s super flown and perfect for those hotter days!

We’ve then got this button down cardigan paired with mom jeans I picked up from Tesco (F&F jeans are the best jeans and no one can convince me otherwise!) and some zebra print slip ons with rainbow heart hoops! I wasn’t sure how I wanted to wear this cardi at first but it’s so versatile that it goes with nearly everything! I chose to wear this cardigan by itself without a bra or top underneath because for one, it’s hot at the moment, and two – because why not!

Here’s that cute cardigan again, but this time I’ve put it with these incredible trousers I got from ASOS!

These trousers are so comfy because they’re high waisted, have little buckles on each side and on the ankles so you can adjust them and they are just plain (or rather not plain haha) adorable! And I think putting these with a simple black turtle neck (also ASOS) is such a cute look. I decided to accessories with black books for a grunge look and had to put my super cute iced coffee earrings with it to tie it all together! It’s one of my favourite looks of all, I just wish it was a little colder so I can wear it without overheating!

Next up is my cute all pink outfit. The variety in my style always makes me laugh, one second I can be seen in a super smart look, the next a grungy one, then super intimidating and then super soft. It all depends on my mood for the day. And this outfit is what I like to gravitate towards on those days where I want to wear pink and be all stereotypically cutesy! So, here I’ve got these baby pink cargo joggers with a checked pink crop top; and sometimes I like to add a white tee that I’ve cropped myself and add a white beanie to top it all off.

Here’s a smart, feminine and classy look that I love so much. Especially when I add the slim black sunglasses. Black mom jeans are comfy, look smart and are warm for those breezy days. I picked up the cardigan from ASOS (like a lot of these haha not sponsored, but it could be – ASOS.. I doubt you’re reading this but if you are, feel free to hit me up!) which has a nice 90’s vibe because of the black tiny ruffle trim which is cute by itself or open with a cute crop top and then I decided on these black flats that I’ve had for way over 5 years but have hardly ever worn, and I don’t know why I haven’t because they’re so unique and class up any outfit!

Last but certainly not least, we have one of my all time favourite looks. It’s certainly not cold enough for this outfit but I love it so much I had to include it. Here we’ve got an oversized grey SuperDry jumper with a black skort and black tights and boots. Oh, and of course I had to have the statement black sunnies make an appearance too. This look makes me feel so cute and I cant help but have happy vibes when I wear it. Plus, can we just appreciate how absolutely adorable this skort is!

And those are my favourite outfits! My style really does depend on how I’m feeling and what I want my mood for the day to be. If I’m feeling artsy and it’s chilly I’ll probably go for something like the tartan trousers, and if I’m feeling like I want to be effortless then I might go for the black mom jeans – cream cardi combo and if I’m feeling like I want to be cutesy then I might wear any of my dungarees or my pink cargo joggers.

Basically I wear what I want, when I want. And the motto I stand by when it comes to getting dressed and style is that you should wear what makes you happy, feel beautiful, confident and like you.

Love who you are and embrace yourself. Anything you wear will look good if you feel good.

Well, that’s it from me for today! What are your favourite outfits? How would you describe your style? Mines definitely eclectic! Let me know yours in the comments or tag me in your looks on insta @theweightofmyworlds!

Stay safe out there and love yourself.

Kindness – Mental Health Awareness Week.

Kindness – Mental Health Awareness Week.

Pocketcoach app

Hello my lovelies!! Happy Saturday and I hope you have a happy bank holiday weekend! So, as you may be aware, this week is mental health awareness week, and each year we have a different theme, and this years theme is kindness. Pretty fitting for the year we’re having isn’t it?!

If you’ve been with me and my blog for a long time, you’ll know that I’ve had my fair share of mental health challenges in my time and I’m very open about them. I’ve got a diagnosis of anxiety, depression, ocd and I’m in recovery from anorexia. That being said, I’m very happy to let you know that I am in a very good place with my mental wellbeing.

Part of the reason why I’m in a good place with my mental health is because I’ve had cbt (cognitive behavioural therapy) in the past, I’ve also had support from eating disorder services, I use mental health apps and selfcare to manage my mental health and of course I have my family and friends who support me!

One of the apps I have been using is called Pocketcoach, and this week I’ve done a little review of it for you!

First impression?

I love that the app works a bit like a text message conversation, once you’ve had your first text chat, you can go on to choose different courses that you can do in your own time that can help with your mental wellbeing. I found it super easy to use and I like how it uses emojis and gifs in the conversation, it makes it feel like you’re chatting to a friend!

What do I like about it? What does it offer?

I like how you can create an account to save your information, so you can log on to use the app on different devices and follow on from where you left off.

Once you’ve had a conversation with Pocketcoach you can then go on to choose a course that you’d like to go through, since it’s #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek I decided to go with Self-Kindness since this years theme for mental health awareness week is kindness. And I think we could all be a lot kinder to ourselves, especially in times of stress.

On the course for Self-Kindness I found that I liked how easy it was to follow along since it’s all in a chat format, so you can scroll back to the start of the conversation to re-read anything if you need to. Another thing I like is how you get given options to have some parts of the course through videos or text, the choice is yours; which is great if you’re using the app on the go and can’t use sound for the video, because you can still get the help through text.

If the courses aren’t your kind of thing you can check out all of the different exercises they have. They’ve got exercises for a range of challenges, for mindfulness, meditation, sleep and lots more. I’ve personally found their ‘guide to falling asleep’ very helpful on those nights where I’ve struggled to get to sleep because of worries and stress.

Did I like it, and will I continue using it?

Yes! I’m going to continue to use Pocketcoach when I’m stressed in the future, and even when I’m not because I found the guided exercises very helpful for taking a few minutes to slow down and focus on myself. Having something you can click onto to have a chat with is great for those times when you want to check in with how you’re feeling.

Here’s some more screenshots of the exercises you can find in the app!

So, what else have I been doing for selfcare over the last week or two?

Well.. I’ve been spending plenty of time drawing and painting and going on lots of walks to manage my mental health. I’m incredibly lucky that I have a beautiful walkway near the back of my house which is full of trees and flowers and lovely greenery which never fails to lift my spirits if I’m feeling low and always helps me relax and get a clear headspace.

Something I’ve been doing over the last week is writing letters with positive messages and hiding them in the walkway I love to go down for people to find signed with the alias #TheWorryNotWalker! After all, who doesn’t love a treasure hunt or finding a letter with a wax seal?! It’s like recieving your Hogwarts letter with kind messages inside!

Here’s a few photos from the walkway!

And that’s what I’ve been up to over the last week and a bit! Have you tried any mental health apps before? Are there any you’d like me to review?

I love being able to bring a smile to people’s faces through small acts of kindness and I can only do this because I’m being kind to myself through making time for selfcare and selflove.

So, with all that said and done, remember to be kind to yourself, and know that reaching out for support is not a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength!

I’ll leave you with these wise words from an utterly fabulous queen:

“If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else?”

– Rupaul

Have a great weekend my lovelies! Stay safe and make some time for yourself today!

Sunshine Blogger Award

Sunshine Blogger Award

Happy Saturday my lovelies! This week I had the lovely surprise of being given the Sunshine Blogger Award by the very lovely Abbie! I love these posts, they bring the blogging community together and we all get to know more about on another.

Before I start this post, I just want to say, I’d definitely recommend reading Abbie’s Sunshine Blogger Award posts here! From her post I found out we share a love of Emily Blunt, people watching and we certainly share the same sentiment when it comes to running.. or lack of running.. haha! Abbie talks about all sorts on her blog and her writing is so engaging, so it was an honour being nominated by her for this!
Sunshine Blogger Award photo

So, the idea behind the sunshine award is to highlight and nominate bloggers that you believe spread positivity, kindness and that are, put simply, rays of sunshine!

The rules go like this:

  • If you’ve been nominated, it means you’ve been given the award! So, congrats and well done!!
  • You must thank the blogger that nominated you and link back to their blog or their original post.
  • List the rules for this award and a snazzy logo or picture of it in your blog post.
  • Answer the 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 more bloggers and set 11 fun questions for them to answer.

Onto my questions from the lovely Abbie:

1 . What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Funnily enough this is a piece of advice, or maybe you could call it a quote, from Stuart Little of all things! Every cloud has a silver lining. So I try and make at least one person smile a day, I love positivity and try my best to radiate it! And it’s a great reminder that if you can look on the brighter side, things do seem brighter!

2 . The strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?

As a fussy eater, this one isn’t strange at all, but I can’t think of anything strange I’ve eaten; I think I once ate a worm when I was tiny? Haha! But a few of my friends thought it was weird that I like cheese and apple sandwiches.. which isn’t weird at all I later found out from loads of people who eat them!

3 . If you could make one rule that everyone had to follow, what rule would you make?

Ooo hard one! I guess it’d have to be that everyone is treated equally! A girl can dream no? Now that I think about it, also that war and violence is never an option! I don’t mind being naïve with these sorts of things, because it helps me to stay positive!

4 . What is your favourite smell?

Freshly baked bread or cake, coffee, fresh and warm laundry along with oranges!

5 . What would be your dream meal? Including starters, main course, dessert and drinks?

For starters it’d have to be.. freshly baked bread with butter (can’t go wrong with a classic, right?). My main course would be a roast dinner, it’s my all time favourite meal and I could eat it 365 days a year easily! And for dessert it’d have to be a chocolate soufflé with pralines and cream ice cream, anything warm and chocolatey is just a dream for my sweet tooth! The drinks to top it all off would be a Disaronno and fresh orange juice; I asked a bar tender to recommend a drink for someone who like Disaronno and that’s what I was given.. trust me, it’s delicious!

6 . Who are your five dream dinner guests?

There’s too many people to pick from! Is it too cheesy to say the Fab Five from Netflix’s Queer Eye? Or it’d be Michelle Obama, Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt, James Corden and Chris Pratt. It’d be a pretty great dinner party if I say so myself.

7 . What film/book could you watch/read again and again and not get bored of it?

Legally Blonde has to have a mention here since I’m watching the first and second one for the fifth time in a row whilst I’m writing this.. and I am not sorry! It’s a great film about women breaking stereotypes in my opinion and is just such an easy breezy watch! And of course all of the Harry Potter books/films, I’m a huge potter head and am hoping to go back to the studio tours again next year!

giphy

8 . Do you believe in ghosts and the paranormal?

To this day I’m still on the fence! Part of me hopes there are ghosts and that the paranormal world does exist out of pure curiosity, but I’m a huge scaredy cat so part of me hopes not!

9 . If money and time weren’t a problem what skill would you like to learn?

Carpentry. I love creativity and I’m always thinking of ways to upcycle and change furniture, but sometimes my ideas are a bit too ambitious compared to my lack of skills with powers tools other than an electric drill! Haha!

10 . Are you a morning or a night person?

I used to be a morning person who would get up at 5AM EVERY DAMN MORNING. Then I became more of a night person.. but now I’m a bit in between and wake up around 7am! I love my bed and sleep a bit too much, so for me, an early night in is usually on the cards!

11 . Where would be your dream holiday destination?

There’s too many! I’d love to go to Canada though, I’ve not travelled too far away from the UK so Canada, America, China and Japan are on my bucket list!

Alright, so my questions are:

  1. What’s your go-to self care tip?
  2. What did you want to be when you were little?
  3. If you play an instrument, which one? Or.. what instrument would you like to play?
  4. Is there a quote you live by? If so, what is it?
  5. If you could only eat one meal, three times a day for the rest of your life, what’d it be?
  6. What’s one of your favourite childhood memories?
  7. Why did you start blogging?
  8. If you could step in the shoes of anyone for a day (like in Freaky Friday haha) who would it be?
  9. What 3 words would you use to represent your personal style?
  10. What gives you that extra spring in your step in the morning?
  11. If you were stuck on an island, who would you want to be there with you?

My nominees are:

And that’s just a small group of the amazing bloggers that deserve this award! Be sure to check them and their blogs out! You won’t regret it, trust me! Oh and if you share your Sunshine Blogger Award posts on twitter be sure to tag me @weightofmywrlds so I can retweet them and spread the love!

Being nominated for awards like these always bring a huge smile to my face and will keep me smiling for ages, and its a great motivation to keep improving and writing! What’s something little that brought a smile to your face in the last week? Let me know in the comments!!

Have a great weekend my lovelies, and Happy Easter!

Why I’m Refusing To Make New Years Resolutions About My Body.

Why I’m Refusing To Make New Years Resolutions About My Body.

Hello my lovelies! I hope you have all had a happy Christmas and a very peaceful few days in the lead up to the end of the year! And of course, because we’re coming up to the New Year, New Years resolutions are popping up all over the place.

Which brings me to this post. For as long as I can remember, I have made New Years resolutions each year; and EVERY SINGLE ONE has been about how my body looks and my weight. It’s always along the lines of: I will lose weight, I will drop a dress size, I will change my body, I will go to the gym 6 times a week, I will stop eating certain foods etc. etc. etc.

This year I REFUSE to make a resolution about changing my body.

Now, some of you who are subscribed to my blog will know that I have spoken out about my body image issues and having suffered with Anorexia (see my previous post about it here!). Well, this past year I have been lucky enough to get some help and support and I am happy to announce that I am in recovery!

Writing this post came from seeing everyone’s resolutions on social media, with the majority of them being about their bodies and how they want them to look; and before I started my recovery journey, mine would have been like that too. I started thinking about what I want for the new year ahead and for the first time in.. well forever, I don’t know what my resolution should be if it isn’t about my appearance.

Here’s why I’m refusing to make my new years resolutions about my body:

  • My body does NOT need to change to be beautiful. It already is.
  • Resolving to eat less food/calories is stupid, food is fuel and we need energy to do all the amazing things we want to accomplish.
  • Food is not ‘good’ or ‘bad’ it’s just food.
  • Taking up less space does NOT mean I am a better human being.
  • Losing weight does not solve all your problems.
  • Spending hours in the gym trying to make my body into something it’s naturally not supposed to be is useless. And boring!

Here’s when it’s okay to make a new years resolution about your body:

  • Deciding to get help with a medical condition or something you’ve been struggling with.
  • Deciding to love your body.
  • Resolving to develop a healthy relationship with food and exercise. And no I don’t mean deciding to go on a so-called ‘healthy’ diet that makes you hate yourself and feel guilty for eating!!

So, because I am not making any resolutions to do with changing my body here are some resolutions that I AM making:

  • Riding my bike to work instead of driving so I become more confident in cycling. (I just got my first bike this Christmas!)
  • Continue writing my blog, it’s by far one of the best things I decided to do this past year and I absolutely love it!
  • Learning to love my body more for everything it is and does.
  • Wearing clothes that I feel comfortable and confident in, regardless of what other people think.
  • Raise some money for charity. (you can check out my JustGiving page for MIND here if you want to!)

Those are just a few of my many resolutions for the new year; and I just want to share with you how much I truly appreciate every single one of you for reading, commenting, liking and interacting with me on here. You have made my year so happy and I can’t thank you enough for all of your support! What’re your new years resolutions? Let me know if the comments!!

I hope you all have a great New Years Eve and a very Happy New Year! Love,
