Halloween Movies and TV Series Watchlist.

Halloween Movies and TV Series Watchlist.

Hello my lovelies! We’re in October, and that means we’ve got 3 weeks until Halloween! So this week I’ve decided to give you a list of halloween, spooky season movies and tv series that are perfect for watching in the lead up to Halloween. Plus, I’m making this list especially for the scaredy cats like me, so you won’t find any horror movies here!

So, grab yourself some snacks, your favourite cosy blanket and your pj’s, and let’s get into it!

1 . Halloweentown – I watched this for the first time the other day and it is great! It’s a easy feel good halloween movie.

2 . Hocus Pocus – I love this movie. It’s perfect for watching with the entire family and I can’t help but smile when I watch it!

3 . Beetlejuice – A little spookier but with a great dance number that I think we will all be singing for days to come!

4 . Shaun of the Dead – Not one for the little kids, but an absolute classic. And a forever favourite with my family.

5 . Casper – You can’t really go wrong with a friendly ghost!

6 . Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit – Perfect for the little kids, my niece and nephew love this one.

7 . Corpse Bride – Tim Burton doing what Tim Burton does best!

8 . The Nightmare Before Christmas – An all time favourite that can be rewatched over and over again and still not be bored with it. It’s the perfect bridge between halloween and christmas!

9 . Coraline – Freaky alternate universe with buttons for eyes.. spooky no?

10 . Ghostbusters – Whether you like the originals or the new version, ghostbusters is a must for halloween!

11 . Coco – Cute, good music and an easy watch; just don’t forget some tissues!

12 . Monster Inc – An oldie but a goodie. This one’s great to watch with the kids, I can’t believe some kids nowadays haven’t seen monsters inc before, I even had the game!

13 . The Craft – You must’ve seen this challenge going around on tiktok at the moment where you lift your friends up with your fingertips, well if you have, now you know where it’s from!

14 . The Addams Family – Funny, and an absolute classic. Tell me you’re not singing the song in your head right now?!

15 . The House with a Clock in its Walls – A recent addition, and who doesn’t love a movie with Jack Black?

16 . Goosebumps – This movie is great for when you’re not a massive fan of scary films but don’t mind being spooked a little.

17 . Buffy the Vampire Slayer – I started watching Buffy last week and now I’m into season 3 (all of it is on Amazon prime at the moment!), it’s super addictive with vampires, demons and high school drama!

18 . The Witches – Maybe skip this one if you’re freaked out by old school special effects, this one I have a love hate relationship with. It’s a classic, but the special effects creep me out a lot, but not so much I won’t watch it!

19 . Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – I remember watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch when I was little, so was so excited when Netflix brought out the chilling adventures of Sabrina a few years ago; and I was not disappointed!

20 . Stranger Things – I love stranger things, it’s just an amazing series and once you start watching it I guarantee you won’t stop! And even if you have seen it before, rewatching it never gets old!

21 . Dark Crystal – I have the movie (from what feels like a lifetime ago) on dvd, and Netflix has filmed a series of it! If you know the movie, give the series a go for some nostalgia!

22 . Edward Scissorhands – Johnny Depp with a million pairs of scissors for hands, who would’ve thought he’d make such a good barber?!

23 . E.T. – This film is perfect for halloween and christmas. I guarantee you’ll be able to find the on the telly on repeat over the next few months, and I’m not surprised because who doesn’t love e.t. and wish they had their own friend from another planet?

24 . The Goonies – An oldie but an a oh so goodie. This one is a must for any halloween movie marathon.

This list is by no means in order from best to least best, because what I put on the telly definitely depends on what sort of spook I’m in the mood for! But those are just a few of my favourite Halloweeny movies and tv shows that I think are perfect for watching around this time of year!

So, what are your favourite shows and movies to watch around this time of year? Let me know in the comments below!

Have a great weekend my loves, and I hope you’re enjoying this spooky season!

Top 15 Halloween Movies.

Top 15 Halloween Movies.

Hello my lovelies! How’s everyone’s spooky season going? I have to admit, this month is absolutely flying by! And since Halloween is nearly upon us, and I’m too old to go out trick or treating and am a bit of an introvert, I decided this weeks post will be about what I’ll actually be doing on Halloween night. Watching all of my favourite Halloween/Spooky movies!

Side note: None of these movies that I’ll be listing will be horror movies.. I’m a huge scaredy cat and have probably only watched about 3 in my lifetime and am not a fan. So if you’re like me and don’t do scary Halloween movies, then this post is for you!

So, without further adieu, grab your popcorn and snacks and let’s get into it!

Hocus Pocus Film GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

1 . Hocus Pocus.

Let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be a true Halloween movie marathon without Hocus Pocus in the line up would it? It’s a classic! Watch it with Disney Life or it’s £4.99 on Amazon Video!

Raul Julia Lovers GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

2 . The Addams Family.

You can’t go wrong with the Addams Family, it’s such a funny film and how can you not love their weird quirky ways! Watch it for £3.99 on Amazon!

Joe Dante Gremlins GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

3 . Gremlins.

I don’t know if this is a Christmas or Halloween film or both, but it’s a classic and you can’t really go wrong with something most people relate to time spent with family. Watch it for £3.99 on Amazon!

Beetlejuice GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

4 . Beetlejuice.

I love Beetlejuice, it’s such a different Halloween film to the others, and it’s one I’ve grown up with so I can’t go without seeing this film near Halloween. And it’s now in the theatre and you can see it live! Watch it for £4.99 on Amazon!

Eddie Murphy Disney GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

5 . The Haunted Mansion.

Who doesn’t love Eddie Murphy?! He’s hilarious and if you’re not a fan of this film, just close your eyes and envision it’s donkey talking haha. Watch it on Disney Life or it’s £4.99 on Amazon.

Shaun Of The Dead GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

6 . Shaun of the dead.

This one’s for families with older children, and just anyone who’s not into really family orientated films. This makes me laugh every time I watch it and it’s one of those films nearly everyone has seen and loves. Watch it on Netflix!

Moon Et GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

7 . E.T.

If you haven’t heard of E.T., where have you been all your life! If you love this family classic, then this will already be on your list for Halloween and Christmas movies. It’s on Amazon for £7.99 on Amazon or on Disney Life.

Harry Potter GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

8 . Harry Potter.

If you know me, you know I’m a Harry Potter nut so of course the entire Harry Potter series had to be included on here. Watch with Amazon, or might already own them!

Haunted House 90S GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

9 . Casper.

You won’t go through Halloween without seeing at least one person dressed up as a ghost, so of course Casper had to be included on here. Watch Casper on Netflix!

Edward Scissorhands Art GIF by Tech Noir - Find & Share on GIPHY

10 . Edward scissor hands.

After thinking about all of the films you only ever see on the TV around occasions like Christmas and Halloween, I realised that I haven’t seen Edward Scissor Hands for a while, and Tim Burton Films are always perfect for Halloween night. Watch on Disney Life or it’s £7.99 on amazon.

11 . Goosebumps.

I love Jack Black, so why not include Goosebumps on the list for spooky season! I found this film a bit creepy and spooky, so it’s a great choice for older children who are into films that are on the spookier side. Watch for free on Netflix!

Rabbit GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

12 . Wallace and Gromit – The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

Wallace and Gromit are a family classic in my house, and my niece and nephew love this film so much so of course it had to be included. Watch on Netflix!

Bride GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

13 . Corpse bride.

Another Tim Burton classic. A man practices his wedding vows in a graveyard, and doesn’t realise he’s said them to an undead corpse bride! What could go wrong? Watch on Amazon prime!

Logo GIF by Ghostbusters - Find & Share on GIPHY

14 . Ghostbusters.

Who you gonna call? (I’m not sorry haha). Whether it’s the new or classic versions of Ghostbusters, what’s more Halloweeny than people hunting ghosts? Bonus points if you watch the one with the Marshmallow man whilst eating marshmallows! Watch the originals on Netflix (the second one from the originals) and Amazon!

Coraline GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

15 . Coraline.

Creepy yet cool. I’ve never seen a film like Coraline since it’s release, and if you bought his on DVD when it first came out, you may have the 3D version with glasses that I have! Watch with Sky cinema!

Tim Burton Christmas GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

16 . Nightmare before Christmas (honerable mention)

I had to give an honourable mention to the Nightmare Before Christmas because I was definitely brought up watching this one around Halloween and then of course Christmas. The film starts the day after Halloween, so it seems fitting to watch this one at the end of the night! Watch on Disney Life, Sky cinema and it’s £4.99 on Amazon!

And those are my top 15 (16 if you include Nightmare Before Christmas) movies to watch if you’re staying in on Halloween. What’s your favourite Spooky Season film? Let me know in the comments!!

5 Thoughtful Father’s Day Gifts

5 Thoughtful Father’s Day Gifts

Hello lovelies! How’s everyone’s week been? This week I’ve been busy at work, making a start on some college work, re-jigging my bedroom furniture and sorting out my Dad’s Father’s Day present. Which brings on today’s post! Father’s Day is right around the corner, so I’ve put together a short and snappy list of five thoughtful gift ideas!

Photos with Dad
Here I am with my dad and some other members of family!

I don’t know where I’d be without such a great role model and supportive figure in my life. I’m very lucky that I have a great relationship with my dad and he’s always been there for me. Which is why I always try and find him the perfect meaningful gift on Father’s Day.

So, let’s get straight into it!

Famous Dad Grouse Gift Box
The Famous Grouse Gift Box image found on MoonPig

1 . Personalised favourite drink or glass – If your dad has a favourite drink they don’t buy themselves very often you could buy them a bottle of it and see if you can get it personalised or you could get them a personalised glass or mug, bonus points if you put an inside joke or funny saying on it! You can find the gifts from the image above on moonpig!

Spirit Level Cufflinks

2 . Hobby inspired gifts – Get your dad something to do with one of their hobbies! You could get silly golf balls, favourite movie inspired gifts, football memorabilia and other things like that! Just think about what you dad likes to do, and get them something to do with that! 3 . Favourite food/cake homemade – Does your dad have a favourite cake or sweet treat? Why not make it and add a personal touch, it’s even better if you make it a little funny or something to do with their hobby! You could make a dart board cake if your dad’s into that something else! I definitely recommend checking out Oh My Cakery! They’re a great small business with incredible cakes!

Personalised Keepsake Memory Box
The image of this personalised keepsake memory box is from notonthehighstreet.com!

4 . Gift based on past experiences – You know those stories your dad is always talking about, the one’s from when we was younger or did something great. Well why not collect some things from his past and create a memory box or you could let him relive that memory through an experience day if it’s something you can afford. This memory keepsake box can be found on notonthehighstreet!

Pac-Man mini arcade machine
This Pac-Man mini arcade machine image was is from MenKind!

5 . Gadgets – I think nearly all of us love a good gadget, so why not find a gadget to either make your dad’s life easier or something that is just a bit silly but has a little meaning to it. For example; check out this mini Pac-Man arcade machine!

So, that’s just a few thoughtful ideas for gifts you can get your dad or father figure next weekend. And if you’re still stuck for ideas after this, just go with something from the heart, cheesy I know, but after all.. it’s the thought that counts!

What are you getting your dad for father’s day? And what’re you planning for the day? My dad loves golf, horror movies, playing puzzle games on PlayStation with all of us shouting out the answers.. haha and just generally having a laugh with all of us. I hope you all have a great fathers day next week with those you care about and I’m thinking of all you who may be having a hard day, just know you’re loved and cared about!

Have a great week everyone!

I Found Out My Ancestry With 23 and Me.

I Found Out My Ancestry With 23 and Me.

It’s Mother’s Day this weekend! So a lot of us will be showering our mums with love and tending to their every need. When deciding what I wanted to write for today’s post, I stumbled between the idea of a mushy post about why I would be lucky if I turned out remotely like my mum or if I wrote about my ancestry that I found out recently with 23 and Me.

So, I’ve decided on a bit of both. My mum and I aren’t what you’d call super cuddly or expressive with our feelings when it comes to reminding each other what we like about one another, which is why I know my mum is cringing reading this right now just like me! Haha sorry mum, but I love ya.

Photo Of Mum

It’s not that we don’t like expressing our feelings, we’ve just never been that way when it comes to talking about each other. And she’s more like a best friend than a mum, and we can tell each other anything (yes that does mean we can talk about emotional stuff, but that’s not us and that’s ok), honestly I don’t really know where I’d be without her. Also, can we just appreciate the fact that my mum, Lindsay, is incredible at encouraging me to wear whatever I want, and she could pull off wearing a bin bag and look great if she wanted too. Although here she’s rocking a neon green crop top (she hate’s this photo, and I can’t understand why, because she looks great! So make sure you show her some love in the comments!).

Right, that’s enough mushy stuff, onto why I wanted to find out my ancestry. Well, for years I have wondered what my heritage actually is, because I’d heard several stories from different family members and where I come from.

23 and Me Box

So naturally over the years I’ve become more and more curious about what’s true and what’s just a rumour! Which led me to buying a 23 and Me pack.

The entire process took about 3-4ish weeks, and that’s from receiving my box, sending it off and being sent my results. One thing I love about 23 and Me is that they update you and keep you informed about what is happening at every step towards getting your results.

So, what did I think my heritage was?

I was told by family members that they thought I could be:

  • British
  • French
  • Something else I can’t remember..

What were my results?

My Heritage

Well, I found out a few things I wasn’t expecting! Here we go:

  • 100% European, Northwestern European

Broken down into:

  • 65.8% British and Irish – UK & Ireland
  • 10.9% French and German – Germany & Netherlands
  • 9.4% Scandinavian – Norway
  • 13.9% Broadly Northwestern European

I’ll be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect from my results! I was just excited to see where I’m from, and finding out I’m more than British was a big shock to me; I have no idea where the Irish, Scandinavian, German or Netherlander (I don’t know if that’s the right way to put it) in me came from.

So once I found this out, I was able to see where/who in my ancestry timeline this DNA has come from.

My Ancestry Timeline

This was so interesting to find out, and it also got me thinking, who in my family do I think could be part of a certain population. And I’ve since asked my family members that I’m close too, about what they know about their own ancestry and it’s sparked some really cool conversations!

I also paid to do the health reports from 23 and Me; so I got to find out about what my genetics say about my personality, appearance, carrier status, health risks, hobbies etc. To give you an idea of what a few things I found out (there’s about 5-7 reports when it comes to the health part so I’ll stick to a few very brief things):

  • Likely to have blue or green eyes – That’s true, I have bright blue eyes.
  • Likely to have lots of freckles – Also true, more so in summer!
  • Likely to have lighter skin – True, and it’s no surprise now considering my heritage.
  • I don’t have an athletes genetic makeup – so guess who’s not going to feel guilty about not enjoying exercise anymore….hahaha.

Here’s a few generations of the women in my family, featuring my incredible dad and nephew (we’re all a little nuts, but I love that about us!). So left to right we have my nephew and niece – such cheeky monkeys, my little sister, my parents, then below left is my granny and my great granny:

Now that I know more about my heritage, I am going to look further into my ancestry, and where I’m from. I also now feel like I know more about myself and why I am the way I am, because of my genetics. And it makes me want to go visit all of these amazing places I’m from even more now, because I have only been to Germany and I live in the UK!

To anyone wondering whether they should do something like this and find out about their genetic makeup, I’d highly recommend it,  especially if you’re unsure what your heritage is. I mean, I found out I’ve got 1,126 third, fourth and fifth cousins probably from a line in my 3rd set of great great grandparents!! And those are just the people who have already done a kit with 23 and Me, and they are from all over the globe! Maybe I’ll connect with them one day, who knows!

Family means the world to me, and I feel like I know mine a little better now. And I just want to thank all of the amazing women (and men, but you know.. it’s mother’s day) in my family for everything they have done and I want to wish them a very happy mothers day. You deserve everything!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you incredible mums, dads and other family members who are doing both roles out there. You’re so important and loved and I just want to remind you of that! Have a great weekend.

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

It’s just over 2 weeks until Mother’s Day 2019, so I thought it’d be a good time to put together my mother’s day gift guide! Even though I believe that you should show people how much you love and care for them all year round, it’s still nice to have a day to remember any loved ones who are no longer with us and show those who are, how much them mean to us.

I always feel that personal gifts are better, but sometimes it can be hard to find a gift that’s just right. So, lets get into it! (I decided to add links to gifts from notonthehighstreet.com and tk maxx because I personally like those sites for presents!)

normal_bunch-of-biscuit-flowers

1 . Food – Get your mum whatever her favourite treat is, it could be her favourite sweets, chocolate, takeaway or café treat! These cute biscuits can be found here!

normal_mother-and-daughter-bracelet

2 . Jewellery – There’s loads of different pieces that you could get your mum, if your mum is a bracelet wearer, I suggest a simple bracelet which is symbolic of your relationship. Here’s the link to the bracelet pictured above for you to check out!

3 . Make it, or take her out for it. Breakfast – This is a traditional one, but you can’t really go wrong with this one, surprise your mum with breakfast in bed or take her out to a café that she has always wanted to go to or just loves going to!

normal_personalised-stem-vase

4 . Flowers – If you’re mum likes getting flowers, why not buy her a bunch of her favourite kind with a new vase and if she isn’t a fan of getting flowers (or if she isn’t great at keeping them alive..) why not get her something that doesn’t require a load of attention, like succulents and cacti. Find this pretty vase set here!

normal_personalised-solid-copper-photo-print

5 . Personal photograph(s) – Get some of your mums favourite photos printed and framed, or go one step further and use some snaps you took in the past that she hasn’t seen and surprise her with them! If you’re looking for an idea on what to do with some photos, click here to find the copper plate above!

normal_crystal-cut-personalised-gin-glass

6 . Personalised glass or mug – If your mum is a gin and tonic lover, why not grab a pretty glass for her, and get her name or any inside jokes you have on it! Or if your mum is a tea drinker, get her a her own teapot and teacups! You can get the gin glass here!

tk maxx handbag

7 . Handbag – My mum and I often go out shopping together, and from experience she always loves getting a new handbag, especially from Tk Maxx! This cute bag is from Tk Maxx and you can find it here.

8 . Treat your mum to a day doing whatever she wants – If you’re super stuck for ideas you can always ask her what she would like to do! It could be a spa day, relaxed day at home with her every need done for her or simply taking her out for lunch, the choice is theirs!!

normal_put-your-feet-up-book-subscription

9 . Things for your mum’s hobby/hobbies – My mum loves gardening, doing jigsaws, getting a massage, reading a good book and loads more, so why not get your mum something to do with her hobbies? Click here to check out the book subscription gift above!

normal_personalised-mum-s-mini-spa-in-a-bag-survival-kit

10 . Smellies – As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found I enjoy getting smellies more and more, if your mum has a favourite brand for makeup, smellies or candles, you can’t go wrong in picking up some of them! This gift bag can be found here!

Those are just a few ideas for what you can get for your mum, and at the end of the day, it’s the thought that counts. Plus, I’m sure letting your mum know how much she means to you, how much you value her and everything she’s done for you will make her very happy.

If you’re still stuck for ideas, pay attention to what your mum has been liking, loving and needing over the next two weeks and use that to get something she’ll like. And if you’re beyond stuck, just ask her what she’d like to do! I’m sure she’ll be happy to tell you what she’d want to do, and sometimes that will actually allow you to get her exactly what she wants.

So, Happy Mother’s Day for two weeks time!! And thank you so much to all of the mums, granny’s and great grandmas out there for everything you do. Have a great weekend lovelies!!

The Sun: Living With Our Star – London Science Museum Trip!

The Sun: Living With Our Star – London Science Museum Trip!

Hello my lovelies! So about two weeks ago now I was invited for breakfast at the London Science Museum to view their new exhibition – The Sun: Living With Our Star, and how it has changed/impacted us over the years and will in the future. This was actually the second time I got to go to this exhibition; because I went at the very beginning of February with Matt, and we loved it, so when I got the chance to go back and take my family, I jumped at the opportunity. Photo 17-02-2019, 2 41 31 pm

I’ll start with a little info about the exhibition itself. The show is up until the 6th May 2019, and tickets are from £15 and kids under 16 years old go for free! (Bargain if you ask me). The exhibition has a few interactive displays which my family and I found great fun, and I learnt loads of new things about the sun that I didn’t know before. So, here’s what I have to say about it.

Firstly, I’d definitely recommend you go and see it! It’s a great day out for not only yourself, but also your family! Every piece in the exhibition is beautiful, unique and just darn right fascinating!

One thing I learnt is what to take (and what not to take) in the event of a solar storm. I also learnt how to read two types of sun dials..who needs watches anyway?!

Photo 03-02-2019, 7 57 59 pm

Photo 02-02-2019, 10 15 11 amThere’s several rooms in the exhibition and one of those is an indoor beach which was very pretty and relaxing, also – no sunburn so no sun-cream needed! After having a little sit down on the beach loungers I got to virtually try on some sunglasses from different places and times around the world. If you go and try on the glasses, take a photo and add it to your instagram story and tag me (@theweightofmyworlds) and the science museum (@sciencemuseum), I’d love to see your snaps!

I got to see what time the sun rises and sets in different countries on different days, this display was beautiful! In contrast to that, I saw this bizarre bed without a mattress, it looks like some sort of medieval torture device but was actually used to treat sun stroke.

I’ll stop going on about how cool (or should I be saying hot? Hahaha) the exhibition was now and let some of the photos I took speak for themselves, but you aren’t seeing everything.. you’ve got to go and check it out for yourselves!

They have a great gift shop by the way, and the London Science Museum has even curated a new book called ‘The Sun: One Thousand Years Of Scientific Imagery’ with a huge number of incredible images not only of the sun but everything related to the sun!

After the exhibition, we went and had a wander round the rest of the museum and then had coffee and cake in one of their lovely cafes! I hope you enjoy the museum; if you go (which you should..) be sure to let me know and tag me in any of your photos you post! Once we’d had a good chill out and snack, we went and visited a few of the other museums and made a weekend of it!

I hope you enjoyed today’s post my lovelies, it was an absolute pleasure to visit the London Science Museum and write this post. I know you’ll all love it if you go!

Have a great weekend everyone! Where do you like going for days out? Let me know in the comments!!

14 . I love this one so much! Here’s my favourite item in this gift guide, possibly because I’m a bit of a magpie and love anything sparkly, especially jewellery! And this bracelet by Cote D’Argent is not only gorgeous but also adjustable. You can find bracelets like this one in TK Maxx.

Baby toy

15 . For the little ones who don’t fully realise that Christmas is even a thing yet. I like this toy as it has lot’s of textures, sounds and things a baby can hold onto to chew! You can get this one from Lamaze on Amazon.

Hot sauce

16 . For the foodies! If you’re buying for a foodie, the chances are you’ve got either a general idea of what sort of thing they would like or absolutely zero idea altogether. And that is why I think that a gift like this hot sauce taster set is perfect! You get a choice of 8 sauces all of them unique! You can get this set from Tesco instore.

Lollypops

17 . If you’re needing a little stocking filler for someone with a sweet tooth, these peppermint lollypops are super cute and cheap! You can get them from Tesco instore or online here!

I hope you find this guide useful! Finding the perfect gift for that special someone always makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside (cheesy I know). And seeing their face when they open it is just amazing. Let me know in the comments below what you’re favourite gift is!

Merry Christmas lovely!
