Customising Clothes.

Customising Clothes.

Happy Sunday my lovelies! I hope you’re enjoying the four day weekend as much as I am; I celebrated my third blogiversary (post coming soon), have been creating a miniature greenhouse and have been customising some clothes!

You see, I absolutely love fashion and art, so it’s pretty natural for me to customise and create my own clothes. In the past I have customised a few pieces with embroidery (you can check them out here) but more recently I’ve been delving more into tailoring clothes to fit my style so they aren’t just sat in the back of my wardrobe.

Something I love doing to different pieces is drawing or painting my own design onto them to give them a bit of a pattern and personality. One of my favourite things I’ve done with fabric pens is draw line art faces all over a pair of mom jeans that I hadn’t worn in a long time, but now I wear them all the time!

I also had an old oversized mens simple white t-shirt that I had cropped in the past and wore as pyjamas, so I made the decision to chop off its sleeves, put in some darts to make it fit a little better, opened up the sides and added some small ties as the method of doing it up and then finally I drew similar faces to the jeans all over it. It’s gone from a boring old t-shirt to a completely new and shaped top perfect for summer.

As well as customising clothes with fabric pens and paint, I also have slowly been personalising a denim jacket I picked up a while back with patches and pins, with the plan of covering it as much as I can!

Here’s what it looks like so far:

And finally, the project I undertook today, customising a very long summer dress I picked up so it would be a bit more me; and the good news is that not only did it take a mere 30s minutes from start to finish, but I also documented the process so you can do the same to any dresses you may want to shorten and change up a bit!

For this dress I decided that I wanted to shorten it to around knee length (I’m 5ft 3 for reference) since it looked a bit like it was drowning me with it being full length and then adding in a thigh split to give it that extra little pop.

So, here’s what we were starting with:

Dress before customising

As you can see, the hem of the dress landed just above my ankle, so I made the decision to take off about 8-10 inches from it to get it around knee length for me.

So, here’s what you’re going to need:

  • Fabric scissors
  • Sewing Machine or needle and thread (and a lot of patience)
  • Pins
  • Something to mark your fabric with – I used a white gel pen but most pens/pencils will work
  • Measuring tape or ruler

Now that you know what you’ll need, onto some instructions!

Step 1: Measure from the bottom of the hem how much fabric you want to take off, for me this ended up being 8 inches. And remember to add your seam allowance to the bottom of this so you get the length you want, for me I was happy with anywhere in between 8 and 10 inches being cut off so I just cut at 8 inches. Then cut off the bottom of the dress.

Step 2 : Fold over the new bottom edge of the dress and pin it down, I didn’t bother to iron the hem down but you can always do that if you want to be extra sure you’ve got a crisp edge.

Step 3 : Sew down your hem, and try on you new dress! (Told you this was a quick way to change up and customise a dress)

I personally decided to style my new dress with a cute black belt to accentuate my waist and a pair of combat boots and that was that! I love this dress so much more now compared to before; I feel like it suits my personality a lot better too.

Here’s a before and after comparison for you!

Compared to my white t-shirt transformation this probably doesn’t seem like a huge transformation but the small subtle changes make a difference making this dress feel younger and more my style.

And those are some of my customised pieces! I’m constantly thinking of new ways I’d like to personalise and change up my clothes and accessories, so if you like this post or try out some of these methods of customising pieces let me know and I’ll create more posts like this!

Do you like to customise your clothes? If so, what do you like to do to personalise them? Let me know in the comments!

Have a great weekend and Easter my lovelies!

Art Journalling.

Art Journalling.

Hello my lovelies and happy Sunday! I hope you’re having a good weekend so far and are looking after yourself.

As you will have noticed, the day that this post is going up is a Sunday instead of my usual Saturday, and that’s because I’ve had to make a small change to my blogging schedule due to other stuff going on, so for the next few months posts will be up on Sundays instead on Saturdays!

So, over the last few weeks you may have also noticed something new about me.. I finally took the plunge and dyed my hair pastel pink! I absolutely love it and I think it’s my favourite colour so far!

Another thing that has been happening recently is that I’ve been making more time to work in my sketchbook which is becoming a bit like an art journal, sketchbook and scrapbook combo.

To get an idea of the sort of thing I mean, here’s one of my Pinterest boards of inspiration!

Now that you have a bit of an idea as to what I’m jabbering on about, here’s a few reasons why I love art journalling and 100% recommend it to everyone who loves getting creative and struggles to get out of their own head after a long day:

  • It’s relaxing and a great way to practice mindfulness.
  • I can jot down any ideas and thoughts I’ve had during the day.
  • It’s a way for me to practice and improve my creative skills.
  • It’s like a photo album of memories and thoughts you can look back on.

So now that you know some of the many reasons why I love art journalling, why don’t you grab yourself a cuppa, sit down, get out your art supplies and journal with me! And even if you’ve never tried journalling or are just curious as to what my sketchbook looks like, you can check out the video and photos below!

Here’s some of my favourite spreads, some are still works in progress that I plan on coming back to very soon!

You may have noticed that when it comes to my journal there isn’t huge amounts of text or writing, and there’s two reasons for that. One being that I don’t always know what to write. Two, I have never been good at writing down my exact thoughts, so instead I express them through other things like quotes. Another thing you will have noticed is that I like to feature unique words in my journal spreads, and that’s because I like finding words that I’ve never heard of before that I think are pretty and then research some that fit with the theme of my pages.

My love for journalling and working in my sketchbook has always been there, and over the last few weeks and months I’ve been dedicating more and more time to it and it’s done wonders for managing my mental health. Not to mention that I get to have a very pretty sketchbook after.

What’s your favourite spread in my journal/sketchbook? Do you have your own sketchbook or journal you like to work in? If you do, I’d love to see them, just tag me on instagram (@theweightofmyworlds) !

Well, that’s all from me for today my lovelies! Have a great rest of your weekend!

Easy DIY Pine Cone Santas.

Easy DIY Pine Cone Santas.

Hello my lovelies! We’re finally in December, and that means the countdown to Christmas has begun! Since we’re in the lead up to Christmas, everyone is decorating their homes (if they haven’t already – to tell you the truth my house has been decorated since the 1st November!) I’ve been doing some festive diy’s!

DIY Pine Cone Santas

One decoration I’ve seen, not for Christmas, but for all year round, was of some cute gnome pine cones. And it got me thinking that if I added a few details I could make these myself, and make them into some very cute Santas! And I managed to make about 25 of them for about £15 in total for all of the supplies!

So, here’s what you’re going to need:

  • Red and White Felt (and any other colours you want for your santa hats!)
  • Pine cones
  • Pom poms
  • White yarn
  • Wooden beads
  • Hot glue gun (plus some hot glue sticks)
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

I found everything I needed from Ebay and Amazon (if you buy from Amazon, make sure you’re on their Amazon Smile website as they donate money to a charity of your choice each time you buy something!) and everything arrived within a few days.

Right. Let’s get into it!

Step 1: Pick out your pine cone, I chose frosted pine cones for an even more Christmassy feel, then grab some felt in the colour you want for your santa hats. Using a pencil and some yarn, decide how tall you want your hat, and then hold down the end of the yarn at the corner of the felt and draw a 1/4 of a circle.

Step 2: Cut out your 1/4 of a circle and put away any excess for making more hats later. Or you can make a bulk batch of hats in one go, the choice is yours! Now plug in your glue gun, making sure you’ve got it on a safe surface as some glue can come out of the tip as it heats up so be careful!

Step 3: Once your glue gun is hot and ready to go, put a line of glue down one of the straight edges. Next up is rolling up the felt into its cone shape! I recommend starting at the tip of the hat (the corner of the felt will be the tip) and working your way down, be careful with this part and take your time so you don’t burn yourself!

Step 4: Once you’ve got yourself a cone hat, put it on top of your pine cone and double check it’s sitting how you want it to, and if you need to, give it a trim like I did. Now that the main part of your Santa hat is ready, it’s time to add that white trim! Grab your white felt and cut a strip of it, long enough to go round the bottom of the hat, I don’t measure this part and just trim off any extra but you can definitely measure it if you want to! The strip I use is usually around 1.5-2cm thick.

Step 5: It’s time to attach the white trim to the hat, so grab your glue gun and put a line of hot glue over the white felt and carefully wrap it round the bottom of your hat. I definitely glued my fingers a few times during this part so be wary if you’ve never got hot glue on yourself before!

Step 6: Pick your desired pom pom! I went for the classic white pom pom but in the pack I got from Ebay I got a mix of the red, green and white. Use a small blob of hot glue and add it onto the end of your hat! If your hat is especially pointy, you can snip the tip off so you have more space to add the pom pom to. Now add a ring of glue on the inside of your hat (this part reminds me of the Matilda movie) and stick it onto your pine cone so it’s secure!

Step 7: Now it’s time to make Santa’s beard! Grab your white yarn and wrap it around your fingers until you’ve got a decent bundle, remember not to do it too tight, you still want to be able to move your fingers! Then chop the end of the yarn from the bundle, leaving about 15-20cm of yarn unwrapped.

Step 8: Here comes the slightly fiddly part. With the end of the yarn, thread it between your fingers a few times, so you create a bowtie shape. Then you’re going to thread the end of the yarn through on of the sides of your bowtie, leaving a loop. Here you can switch to just two fingers wrapped in the yarn.

Step 9: With your yarn now threaded through one of your bowtie sides, you want to thread the end of your yarn through the loop you’ve just made and pull it fairly tight. Now repeat the process once again and cut off any extra yarn.

Step 10: Time to make Santa’s bowtie into a beard! Take the bundle off your fingers, and cut along the looped edges (a bit like what you do when you make pom poms) on either side, and you’ll have a funny looking bow.

Step 11: Using your hands you can shape the bow into a beard shape. Once you’ve got it to a shape you’re happy with, add a bit of hot glue to the back, where you wrapped the yarn to bind it together, and stick it onto your pine cone. You may need to hold it in place for a few seconds to make sure it sits how you want it to!

Step 12: The final step! Add a small blob of hot glue to the very top and centre of Santa’s beard and add on your wooden bead as his nose!

And voila! You’re done and your Santa is ready to be put on your tree, used as table decorations, given as gifts or pur all around your house! I personally find these super cute, and you can change up the style of them so they suit your taste, I’ve made a few with hats that are flopped down, and a few in green since Santa was originally in green instead of red! I’m also thinking of making a few in some more colours to match the different coloured tree decorations we’ve got going on this year! I find these quite mindful and relaxing to make, so when I’m making them I put on a movie with some snacks and a cup of tea, and before I know it I’m surrounded by Santa gnomes!

What crafts and Christmas diy’s are you doing this year? Let me know if there’s any you’d like to see me try, and if you try these, let me know how it goes and tag me on insta @theweightofmyworlds so I can see your cute crafts!

Have a great weekend my loves and Happy Holidays!

Easy DIY Snowmen.

Easy DIY Snowmen.

Hello my lovelies!! It’s less than two weeks until Santa Claus comes! Woohoo! Who’s excited for Christmas? I know I certainly am! I love the food, being around family and friends and of course the decorations. Which brings me to today’s post, easy DIY snowmen decorations!

I’ve made for several years now as decorations for the festive season and as gifts for the people I care about. These can be used as door stoppers or just as a festive ornament for the wintery season!

Oh, and did I mention how cute they are? Here’s the cuteness we’re dealing with:

See what I mean? A D O R A B L E .

So, onto what you need to make them:

  • White socks (Mens sport socks are great – mine are Tescos basics)
  • Embroidery or thick thread
  • Fabric or socks that you don’t mind cutting up to make a hat and scarf!
  • Buttons
  • Rice or lentils
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun (not necessary but faster then sewing by hand!)
  • Any other decorations!

Now that you know what you need, let’s get into the steps to make one!

Step 1 . Fill one of your white socks with rice or lentils. (I did two cereal bowl fulls).

Step 2 . Double up your sock with another and tie the top to keep the rice in. Then cut the excess sock off the top.

Step 3 . Grab some white thread and double it over, and tie it around your snowman’s body to create its neck and tie it off.

Step 5 . Next up is eyes! Grab black thread (or whatever colour you want!) and sew on some eyes, and if you want you can even add buttons or beads for the eyes!

Step 6 . Time to add a nose! Pick an orange bead or thread and sew on the nose.

Step 7 . Guess what? There’s only 3 steps left! Pick a sock that you want for the snowman’s hat, put it on the snowman’s head and decide how tall you want the hat to be and cut off the excess.

Step 8 . Time to sew up the top of the hat! Sew it together however you like and you can add any accessories to it if you want, I’ve added a pom pom to this one!

Step 9 . We’re on the final step! Time to make the scarf. Cut a sock (or whatever fabric you want to use) into a long strip and glue the edges down facing the middle with a hot glue. Next fold the strip in two (horizontally) and wrap them round your snowman. Depending on the scarves length you can either tie it or glue it down.

Step 10 Snowmen

Step 10 . Viola! You have a snowman! Repeat these steps and you’ll have yourselves a family of snowmen in no time!

Here’s all of the snowmen I’ve made over the years for decorations and a few I’ve made recently as gifts!

And those are my snowmen! Featuring a Snowlamb because why not!? What’s your favourite snowman of the bunch? Let me know in the comments! Have you made any Christmas DIY’s? What’s your favourite decoration/gift to make?

And with that, I hope you’re all having a very happy Christmas so far and I’ll see you next week!

And of course for Christmas day you can have your elf with your presents! I love Christmas for so many reasons, food, family, feeling the festive spirits, the aesthetics and of course the memories.

Some people aren’t a fan of parts of Christmas like doing the elf of the shelf, but one reason why I love it is because it creates great memories for kids! They get to wake up each day seeing their elf doing something funny in the lead up to Christmas day and all of the people helping the elves get into position get to have a giggle doing it too!

Easy Halloween Brownies And Pumpkins.

Easy Halloween Brownies And Pumpkins.

Hello my lovelies! How’s your week been? We’re slowly getting further into October which means we’re beginning to see Halloween decorations everywhere! And it feels like we’ve got ages until it’s actually Halloween, but just like Christmas it’ll creep up on us and before we know it, it’ll be here.

So, I decided I’d show you some quick and easy Halloween decorations, in the form of pumpkin carving and some yummy brownies! And to prove these are actually quick and easy, I did these in the space of 4 hours!

First up we’ve got the brownies. These are something anyone can do when you’re short on time and they’re really easy to do with kids. You can make them from scratch, or just use a box mix from Tesco like I did; it saves time and money! After baking them, the decoration was simple, some melted white chocolate, a bit of chocolate buttercream and decorations you can pick up with the box mix!

One thing I did with my brownies is add some orange zest and extract to give them something a bit extra. Here’s what they look like, basically, just chuck a load of spooky decorations onto the brownies and you’re good to go!

Here’s how I decorated them!

Now, onto the pumpkins!

These were super easy to make; you can do the classic face, cute face or you can use a stencil to do a more intricate design! And of course since stencilling makes it easier to do more complicated designs, I had to do my teacup!

And guess what, I’ve included two stencils for you to download and try for yourself!

Cute huh? Who said Halloween had to be scary anyway?! Here’s how the octopus looks carved!

Octopus Pumpkin

Another very quick way to jazz up your pumpkin is by adding costume accessories to them! Here I added a day of the dead hat and mask and used a melon baller to create eye’s. Top tip, for scooping out the middle of the pumpkin after getting rid of the seeds, I’d definitely recommend a melon baller, I found it surprisingly easier than a spoon! And it’s great for getting perfectly circular eyes!

And voila! You’ve got yourself some cool pumpkins that’ll impress and some yummy spooky brownies! What’s your favourite way to decorate pumpkins? Last year I painted mine! (You can take a look at them here.) Let me know in the comments!

Have a great rest of your weekend my lovelies!

DIY Embroidered Fashion.

DIY Embroidered Fashion.

Happy Saturday my lovelies! How’s everyone’s week been? Mine has just flown by, which I’m not mad at haha. Onto this weeks post! Well.. more like last weeks post to start this one. So, I had so many lovely comments on my last post and Insta about my Harry Potter House inspired outfits and my Unique Fashion post and I’ve had a few requests for a DIY for the embroidered Hogwarts tee I made, so.. of course I had to make you lovely people a tutorial!

DIY Hogwarts Pin

P.S. I love getting requests for posts so please feel free to drop any of them in the comments so I know what you want to see from me!

Plus, it’s pretty easy to make! So don’t think you cant do something before you’ve tried it just because it looks hard or scary, because you’re so capable of doing everything you set your mind to! Alright, motivational pep talk over. Let’s get into it!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • An image you want to embroider (you can get this online or draw it yourself)
  • Tracing paper or Baking paper
  • A pencil
  • A t-shirt or any other clothes you want to embroider
  • Interfacing, enough for your design (You can find it on amazon cheap – here’s what I use, or you can use a scrap of fabric that’s fairly sturdy, linen or cotton I’d recommend!)
  • Embroidery Thread (whatever colours you want!)
  • Embroidery needle
  • Scissors
  • Embroider hoop the size of the design you want to embroider

Here’s the drawing I used for my tee, you can use it yourself if you want, and if you do, let me know how it turns out in the comments or tag me on insta @theweightofmyworlds !

Hogwarts flatlay

Step 1 : Find or draw the image you want to embroider, then if you’re using an image your found online you can either print it out or place tracing paper over the screen and trace the image you want, or draw it free hand on the paper!

Step 2 : Cut out interfacing the size of your design. Then iron it (shiny side goes to the fabric) to the underneath of where you want your design.

Step 3 : Put your fabric in the embroidery hoop and make sure the fabric is pulled tight. (I wouldn’t recommend using super stretchy fabric because the embroidery will shrink once it’s taken out of the hoop and it’ll be harder to embroider).

Hogwarts embroidery

Step 4 : Place the image on tracing paper over your hoop on your t-shirt. Then thread your needle with your chosen embroidery thread and make your first stitch through the paper, so the paper will no longer move when you’re sewing.

Hogwarts embroidery

Step 5 : Using small stitches go over your line drawing, tracing your drawing with the stitches to complete your design.

Hogwarts embroidery

Step 6 : Carefully tear away the paper (I used an unpicker to get under the tiny pieces of paper, you just need to be careful to not unpick your stitches!) to reveal your design!

Hogwarts embroidery

Step 7 : Optional – if you’ve got a ring where your hoop was, you might need to iron it out!

Ravenclaw outfit

Finally : Wear your creation with pride!!

And that’s it! Depending on the size of your design this can be a really quick DIY or it could be one you do over a longer period of time; I managed this DIY in 2-3hours on and off from start to finish.

I love being able to make clothes my own, and having that sense of pride and achievement wearing something you’ve made is amazing. Embroidery is also pretty therapeutic to do whilst watching the TV, so why not put on your favourite show of film and get creating! My next piece I’m customising is an old denim jacket which I can’t wait to show you when it’s done!

So.. what do you think? Are you inspired to make your own? Or do you already personalise your clothes with little touches? Let me know in the comments!

I’d love to see your creations so be sure to tag me in them on insta (@theweightofmyworlds)!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Bullet Journal Inspiration.

Bullet Journal Inspiration.

Hello my lovelies! This week has flown by, and I’ve lost track of what day it is over and over again all week. Which led to today’s post! Bullet journal inspirations. I love organisation, lists and drawing; so why not start my own bullet journal?!

Bullet Journal SeptemberAnd since I’ve decided to start my own bullet journal I figured I’d properly begin it at the start of September to it’s a nice way to create the first page of my journal. Like I do with all projects I intend to start, I like to find myself some inspiration to get creative ideas flowing.

So, today that’s what I’m sharing with you! 12 different bullet journal spreads along with one I whipped up ready for next month that you can see to the right! (all credits go to those who created these beautiful journals/images).

1 . January.

2 . February.

3 . March.

4 . April.

5 . May.

6 . June.

7 . July.

8 . August.

9 . September.

10 . October.

11 . November.

12 . December.

And those are some extremely pretty journal spreads that I found that’ve inspired me to start my own bullet journal! A few pages that I’d recommend you include in your journal:

  • An important information page (your address, phone no., email, passwords etc.)
  • Important re-occurring dates page – birthdays and anniversaries.
  • Month title pages.
  • Week spread pages.
  • Anything else you want to document! (It could be a water tracking page, period tracker, well-being tips, holiday packing lists etc!)

Basically, include whatever you want in your bullet journal, the idea is that it’s a pretty way to document and keep track of your day to day or week to week. What I like is that you have free-rein to do whatever you want with them! All you need is a notebook/journal and a pen and you’re good to go.

And that is all from me today! I’m probably going to go and pick myself up yet another journal purely for the fact that I absolutely love stationary.. I’m not the only one who has hundreds of notebooks lying around just because they’re pretty right?

Let me know what month you like best! Do you keep a journal? Or do you call it a scrapbook? Plus, if you know of any cute stationary stores, let me know in the comments!

Have a great weekend my lovelies!

Easy DIY Coasters.

Easy DIY Coasters.

Hello my lovelies! The heatwave is slowly starting to fade away a bit now, and I am so so happy about that! I’ve been feeling incredibly creative over the last few days and I’ve also been organising and de-cluttering my stuff. And this led to me finding loads of lollipop sticks that haven’t even been taken out of the packet. Whilst I was sat there drinking my tea trying to decide whether or not I should keep them, inspiration hit! I haven’t actually got any coaster sets, which is funny considering the amount of tea I drink!

And that led to this post, this week I’ve put together a super quick and easy coaster DIY you can do yourself at home.

DIY coasters

So…

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Lollipop sticks
  • Hot glue gun
  • Sharp scissors
  • Sand paper (or a good nail file will work)
  • Paint
  • Paint brush

Step 1 :

Cut the curved edges of the lollipop sticks off using the scissors (only do this if you want straight edges).

DIY coasters

Step 2 :

Hot glue gun the sticks into a square shape using small dots of glue so it doesn’t go everywhere.

Step 3 :

Add in a middle stick on one side of the square, then add in four more sticks to that same side as the middle stick with equal spaces.

Step 4 :

Next add in a middle stick on the other side going the same direction as the other sticks. Then add another middle stick going the opposite direction onto that same side along with two either side of the middle stick going the same way as the new one.

Step 5 :

Just flip it over, let the glue set and voila! You have a simple palette style coaster!

DIY coasters

Step 6 :

If you want a pop of colour, grab some acrylic paints and add on a design. You can free hand it like I did or use masking tape or stencils.

These can be made in whatever shape you want, whatever colour or pattern you want! I just love how quick and easy they are to make. In the photo below you can see an un-decorated, mint green and pastel pink coaster I made.

DIY coasters

And that’s it for today’s post! These make a great gift, you can make them for yourself or you could just make them because its fun to do! I like playing around with shapes, designs and colours. These are so simple, and can look quite expensive in my opinion!

I also like that you can get everything you need cheap online or in places like Hobbycraft, sometimes even places like Poundland

What do you think to these? Would you consider making them? Or have you made something similar before? Let me know in the comments!

Also, to keep up to date with what I’m up too during the week you can go follow me on Instagram, I’d love to see all of your beautiful faces!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Unique Fashion.

Happy Saturday lovelies!! This heatwave is certainly going on for a bit longer than I’d like! Do you like the heat? Or are you more of a autumn/winter person?

Anyway, on to the subject of this weeks post: DIY Unique Fashion! I couldn’t decide what to call this post for ages and I think that title sums it up the best. I toyed with DIY Fashion, Personalised Clothes etc. but unique fashion fits better.

Where did the idea for this post come from? Well.. as you know, I love wearing whatever I want, no matter what other people think; and because I’m a creative I often dream up outfits in my head with pieces I don’t own or that would cost way too much money that I don’t have.

And voila! The decision entered my mind that since I have some sewing skills I could probably create some of these pieces myself.

First up I had to decide what I wanted to make, and for my first project I chose shoes. Floral embroidered ones to be exact. I got the idea for these from seeing some checked vans when out and about shopping, those shoes take me back to my teens, everyone used biros and sharpies to draw the check pattern themselves haha.

So to start, I had to work out what shoes to buy as a base, and I figured some cheap converse would be a good plan since there’s loads of fabric to work with. I got mine from Primark in the end because they’re cheap and cheerful and if my idea went horribly wrong then I wouldn’t have wasted a load of money.

Then I ordered myself an embroidery starter pack from Amazon. If you’re wondering which one, you can find it here. It cost about £16, and it came with everything I needed. One thing I will say with this set is that the needles aren’t massively strong so I bought some extra needles which worked a lot better with the thicker fabrics.

Now, if I was smarter, I would’ve drawn out the design I wanted to create. But I decided to just wing it and see what happens. If you aren’t sure what design you want, I’d suggest drawing it out first to be safe.

Then comes the fun part! Time to start sewing! If you’re struggling for ideas on what you want to sew or how to sew certain stitches, there’s hundreds on embroidery tutorials on Pinterest, TikTok and YouTube.

My trainers took me about 2-3 weeks, and that was by working on them on and off in the evenings. Then I got myself some weatherproofing spray and gave them a good covering.

And after all that, I’m super happy with my results!

I love my trainers, they’re unique and no one else has any like it! Plus I have the satisfaction of knowing I made them, and you know, you gotta celebrate your successes no matter how small!

Onto my next 10 minute project that anyone can do, I had a pair of dungarees and I kept envisioning a pretty sunflower on them, so that’s exactly what I did. And it took no time at all. All you need is a needle, some embroidery thread (or even thick normal thread would work to be honest) and some interfacing if you’re working with stretchy and flimsy fabric.

Interfacing is something you can buy in two forms, iron on or sew on. I use iron on interfacing for clothes and adding small designs onto things, but if you were to make your own handbag for example, you’d probably use sew in as it tends to be a bit thicker.

And here is my super cute dungarees! It’s such a small simple thing to add, but I feel like it’s brought a bit of new life to them.

Tips for starting a creative project:

  • Plan what design you want to do/what you want to make.
  • Do some research into different techniques.
  • Make a list of everything you’ll need.
  • Make it in your own time.
  • Take progress pictures if you’re making it over a long period of time. (It’s always great to see how much you’ve progressed!)
  • Wear whatever you’ve made with confidence.
  • Celebrate your creativeness!

And that’s about it for today’s post! I love being able to channel my creativity into my style, and I’ll definitely being making some more changes to my clothes to make them unique. And I can’t wait to wear these shoes out and about to show them off! And as for my dungarees, well I’ve got visions of wearing them with either a bottle green, red wine, mustard or deep purple coloured jumpers in autumn/winter. After all, I am a winter gal at heart.

What do you think to my dungarees and trainers? Let me know in the comments! Has this inspired you to make some of your own personalised clothes/accessories? It’s really rewarding and therapeutic to do. Perfect for days when its pouring down or something to do whilst you lay in the sun.

If you’re out in the sun today make sure you’re keeping cool and hydrated, and wearing sun cream! Have a great weekend everyone, see you next week!

Love,
